The Super Mothers End of Year Ball 2011!!!

Positive Impressions Limited has been impacting lives through various mediums. The company was found by Abi Ajiboluwa, a talented life-coach, motivational speaker and entrepreneur. She knows all about being the ultimate woman and doesn't mind sharing her secrets with others.

Abi also came up with the fabulous concept now known as the ‘Super Mothers Network’. A network run by movement of successful business ladies/mothers ,created to empower, strengthen, elevate and mentor single mothers with June 2011 seeing the first official ‘Single Mothers Conference’ covering a range of topics and issues around the single parent subject, with the objective to elevate all parents in attendance.

As mothers those in the network also assist young business women who are not necessarily mothers, to make a difference. This is a national network with members based from London to America. This amazing formation is rapidly growing seeing members with strong business backgrounds, from accountants and fashion designers to motivational speakers and publicists, these ladies stand by the belief that to work together is to elevate one another.

To celebrate a fantastic year so far and congratulate all our hardworking mothers particularly those that do it alone, Positive Impressions’ ‘Super Mothers’ presents

BANG Goes Retro!!!

Retro is back in all its forms. Check out my latest fashion article 'Bang Goes Retro' showing you just why RETRO is bang on trend. Many people are asking-What is the big deal with these Snapback Hats? Whether you like them or not, the Snapback is in right now, they are EVERYWHERE!!! Very similar to the fitted hat, it became regulation that they were worn as part of the uniform for the American sport-baseball in 1954, this was in order to keep the sun out of the players’ eyes during matches. By the 1980s many other sports had incorporated the Snapback as part of their apparel, emblazoned in bright colours with the team logo on the front and even space for a ponytail! As an 80s baby, I recall them being popular among homeless people. However I admire the way in which they have been revived as a major part of today’s retro fashion culture, particularly popular among the guys.

For those wondering where this whacky name derived from , you can rest assured that the hat doesn’t suddenly snapback and hit you in the forehead lol…It does however have an adjustable strap at the back in order to amend the fit. There is a plastic strip with several slots on one side of the hat and one with little raised bits on the other side and they make a snapping noise when they interlock.

ACCESSORY TO MUSIC

These little beauts are one of my favourite comebacks!!! It’s as if everyone wants to be alone with their tune these days. Derived from the earpiece, there are a variety of headphone designs out there to suit everyone and if like me earphones aka ‘innies’ are super annoying, too big for your ears, painful/uncomfortable, or just won’t stay in, I recommend it’s time for some new headgear!!!

Headphones provide that security of knowing that your favourite song isn’t going to be interrupted, as they stay put due to their adjustability according to head size. No matter where you go, your music roles with you (unless you forget to lock your keypad of course, been there…DOH!!!)

I WANT ONE!!!

There are Headphones to suit everyone’s budget. The Sony headset at £11.99 is perfect for the ‘no nonsense’ listener. It is affordable and delivers a nice sound quality. (Available at Argos)

The vibrant Skullcandy range is extremely popular due to their affordability and variety of designs. Prices normally start from about £24.99. (Available at www.amazon.co.uk & www.dynamic-distribution.net)
The Beats by Dre range are pricier than most but are known for their high definition studio sound quality. They also come in a range of colours. Prices normally start from £149.99 (Available at www.beatsbydre.com)

THE RETURN OF THE PLEATS!!!

Ladies I must say you are wearing those pleats!!! And it hasn’t just stopped at the skirt, which so far has been the most popular. I’ve also spotted pleated maxi dresses, and trousers. Being the hoarder that I am, I recently revived my pleated skirt from 8 years ago (it’s a good thing I kept it).

While the dress can stand alone as an outfit, I believe the skirt is best worn with a long or short sleeved tee or a vest tucked in them as they flow, working as a continuation and enhancement to the simplicity of the top. Why not add a nice pair of loafers or sandals, a cropped and or fitted blazer and accessories, some chunky bangles perhaps?

But don’t overdo it with unnecessary neckwear and leave your waist belts at home!!! Less is definitely more with this look. The trousers allow room for you to be a bit more daring. They are best worn with a blouse tucked in them, to give them that high fashion look. Try a blouse with ruffles and some big earrings or studs. You can add a nice pair of flats or sandals but to make the look more high fashion it’s time to get your platforms out!!! If you wish to add a waist belt for definition, make sure it’s a corset styled one. You can also repeat the skirt with the trousers for a simpler look.

Time & Tights written by Fashion Stylist Gwendoline M.

I love tights!!! There are tights for all occasions. They come in a range of thicknesses and purposes to suit everyone, these include control top, seamless, support and sheer. Most tights are mainly made of nylon or cotton however, lycra has been included in modern blends to improve their fit.

Commonly worn in the theatre industry, tights are now mainly sported as part of the female wardrobe. They were once unisex and have since been derived from the hose often worn by European men in order to keep warm during cold weather conditions. For men of nobility, the material would be made of silk or fine wool rather than the coarser fabrics used by the lower classes.

Tights can also be described as the leg coverings worn in horseback riding, cycling and other athletics, especially by runners and wrestlers. These tights are a thicker spandex-blend, and normally footless. It has also been proven by sport scientists that the use of tights can reduce muscle strain and other injuries. Athletic tights received some publicity during the 2005–2006 basketball season, when players started wearing the ankle-length tights under their uniform shorts. Kobe Bryant of the NBA was one of the first to wear tights, and the style was subsequently adopted by several other NBA players as well as by the regular male population, as a fashion statement. The style sparked controversy, leading to proposals to prohibit wearing tights with basketball uniforms.

Because of the interwoven fabrics used to make tights, there are pores in the fabric where modern manufacturers have been able to place items in them which can be of benefit to the skin. Microencapsulation techniques are used to place substances such as moisturizers and other skin creams in the tights. These creams are said to act against the skin to create a health and/or beauty benefit for the wearer. Some manufacturers have even put caffeine in tights which they claim can reduce cellulite.

In the fashion sense the beauty and practicality of tights is underrated. They have been made fitted to show the leg in its most shapely form. Ribbed tights are thick, fun and come in an assortment of colours. They are an excellent choice for cold weather, especially if you aren’t quite ready to put your dresses, skirts and shorts to the back of your wardrobe.

Tights can also be worn to add extra spice to your sexy lingerie and boost your appeal. They can show little or no leg, leaving a lot more to the imagination. A male friend of mine once said to me ‘all that Beyonce was missing in her ‘Single Ladies’ video was a pair of tights. That would have given her even more sexy points.’ (Men! lol)

Ladies try adding a pair of tights to your next look. Make your legs happy and give your outfit that extra pop that it deserves! I recommend both the House of Holland and Gypsy ranges. Or you can get a pair of plain tights and customise them. All you need are gems, other arts and crafts, fabric glue and a pair of scissors.
